Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Eastway Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2025) – As a result of this continued investigation, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) Homicide detectives identified Cristian Caraballo, 19, as a suspect in connection to this case.

Detectives obtained a warrant for Caraballo’s arrest.

On Tuesday, Dec. 2, CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VACT) located and arrested Caraballo.

Caraballo was transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) where he was interviewed by homicide detectives. At the conclusion of this interview, Caraballo was transported to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Caraballo is charged with Murder.

The victim’s next of kin has been notified of this arrest.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by CMPD's Public Affairs Division. Charlotte, N.C. – (Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025) – The victim in this case has been identified as Ernesto Caraballo Toledo, 50.

Mr. Toledo’s next of kin has been notified of his death.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 1300 block of Wembley Drive in the Eastway Division.

On Saturday, Oct. 18, shortly before 2:00 a.m., officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon call for service in the 1300 block of Wembley Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim who sustained a life-threatening injury. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene by MEDIC.

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also assisted.
