Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Freedom Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, Oct. 19, 2025) – As a result of the continued investigation, detectives identified the suspect in this case as Demaro McDowell, 45, and obtained warrants for his arrest.
On Friday, Oct. 17, McDowell was located and arrested by CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT). McDowell was transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) where he was interviewed by detectives. Upon completion of the interview, McDowell was transported to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
McDowell has been charged with:
- Murder
- Possession of Firearm by Felon
Mr. Hill’s next of kin has been notified of this case update.

Mr. Hill’s next of kin has been notified of his death.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2025) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 100 block of North Crigler Street in the Freedom Division.
On Tuesday, Oct. 14, at approximately 10:46 p.m., officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon call for service in the 100 block of North Crigler Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim who sustained a gunshot wound. MEDIC transported the victim to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The victim later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, and MEDIC also assisted.
