Joint Agency Operation Results in Four Arrests, Seizure of 11 Firearms

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, Aug. 20, 2026) – A joint Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) narcotics investigation recently resulted in the arrest of four suspects on Trafficking Cocaine along with the seizure of more than 12 kilograms of cocaine and 11 firearms.

On Aug. 7, 2026, officers with CMPD’s Southeast Service Area Crime Reduction Unit (SESA CRU) coordinated an operation with the Federal Bureau of Investigation Transnational Organized Crime-Western Hemisphere (FBI TOC-West) Operations Unit in reference to an ongoing narcotics investigation involving a kilo-level cocaine distributor operating in the eastside of Charlotte.

TOC-West and SESA CRU officers conducted multiple-week surveillance on residences in the 7200 block of Old Mt. Holly Huntersville Road and in the 12000 block of Rocky River Church Road. Several traffics stops associated with this surveillance confirmed that narcotics transactions were occurring in association with the residences. 

On Aug. 18, at approximately 7:50 p.m., SESA CRU officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle associated with a suspect in the 12000 block of Rocky River Church Road. A CMPD K9 team responded to the traffic stop, and the K9 alerted to the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle. During the following probable cause search of the vehicle, officers located and seized more than $69,000 in United States currency and approximately one kilogram of suspected cocaine.

 

Jose Ismael Fernandez, 29, and Marlon Alexis Fernandez-Calix, 36, were arrested and charged with Trafficking Cocaine.

A total of nine subjects were detained during the execution of the search warrants with additional charges anticipated.
