Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, February 28, 2024) – As a result of the continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit have classified this case as a justified homicide. The Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office has consulted with the CMPD’s Homicide Unit and concurs with the detectives’ decision not to charge anyone in this case.
Mr. Simpson’s next of kin has been notified of this case status.
The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD’s Public Affairs Office. Homicide Investigation in the University City Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, February 21, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 400 block of Berkeley Hill Drive.
On Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at approximately 10:31 p.m., University City Division officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon with injury call for service in the 400 block of Berkeley Hill Drive. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male victim with an apparent gunshot wound. MEDIC also responded and pronounced the victim deceased on scene. Detectives are not looking for any suspects at this time.
Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives of CMPD’s Operations Command, MEDIC and the Charlotte Fire Department also assisted.
