Homicide Investigation in the University City Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, July 7, 2026) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 8200 block of University City Boulevard in the University City Division.

On Tuesday, July 7, shortly before 1 a.m., officers responded to a discharging a firearm call for service in the 8200 block of University City Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers discovered one victim with life-threatening injuries who had sustained a gunshot wound. MEDIC transported the victim to a local hospital before pronouncing the victim deceased.

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services and CFD also responded to assist.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Office.
