Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the North Tryon Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, June 3, 2025) – As a result of this continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department have identified Keion Depina Brown, 20, and a 17-year-old juvenile male as suspects in the murder of Kamorrie Prather and obtained warrants for their arrests.
On Monday, June 2, 2025, the CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) arrested Mr. Brown and the juvenile. After their arrests, Mr. Brown and the juvenile were transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) for interviews with detectives from CMPD’s Homicide Unit. Mr. Brown was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office. The juvenile was transferred into the custody of Cabarrus Juvenile Detention Facility.
Mr. Brown and the juvenile will be charged with:
- Murder
- Conspiracy to Commit Murder
Mr. Prather’s next of kin been notified of the arrests.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Saturday, May 31, 2025) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation at the intersection of North Graham Street and Craighead Road in the North Tryon Division.
On Saturday, May 31, shortly before 2 a.m., officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon with injuries call for service at the intersection of North Graham Street and Craighead Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim in a vehicle with a gunshot wound and pronounced the victim deceased on scene.
Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services and CFD also responded to assist.
