Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Metro Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, July 24, 2026) – As a result of the continued investigation, detectives identified Marquaris DeMontez Timmons, 24, as a suspect and obtained warrants for his arrest.

On July 24, CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) located and arrested Timmons without incident.

Timmons was brought to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) where he was interviewed by homicide detectives. At the conclusion of the interviews, Timmons was transported to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Timmons has been charged with:

Murder
Attempted Murder
Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill or Inflicting Serious Injury
Shooting into an Occupied Vehicle

The victim’s next of kin have been notified of this arrest.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Division. Charlotte, N.C. – (Saturday, July 11, 2026) – The victim in this case has been identified as Cameron Elijah Gilliard-Robinson, 20. The victim’s family has been notified of his death.

Detectives are requesting the public’s assistance and asking any uninvolved motorists and/or pedestrians to call the TIPS line 704-432-8477 with any information.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, July 10, 2026) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation at the 100 block of 30^th street in the Metro Division.

On Friday, July 10, shortly before 8 p.m., officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon call for service at the 100 block of 30^th street. Upon arrival, officers discovered two victims with apparent life-threatening injuries. One victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command and Victim Services also responded to assist.
