Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Metro Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2025) – As a result of the continued investigation, detectives have identified a 14-year-old juvenile as a suspect in this case and obtained a secure custody order for their arrest.
On Thursday, Aug. 21, the Special Investigation Bureau Crime Gun Suppression Team (CGST) located and arrested the juvenile without incident.
Following the arrest, the juvenile was taken to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) and was interviewed by homicide detectives. At the conclusion of this interview, the juvenile was transferred to the custody of the North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice.
The juvenile is charged with Murder.
Mr. Walton’s next of kin has been notified of this case update.

Mr. Walton’s next of kin has been notified of his death.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, May 18, 2025) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 1200 block of Spring Street in the Metro Division.
On Sunday, May 18, at approximately 4:21 p.m., officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon call for service in the 1200 block of Spring Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered one subject with sustained gunshot wounds. The subject was transported and pronounced at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center.
Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, CFD and MEDIC also responded to assist.
