Homicide Investigation in the Hickory Grove Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, December 29, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 5200 block of North Sharon Amity Road in the Hickory Grove Division.

 

On Thursday, October 19, 2023, at approximately 2:33 p.m., Hickory Grove Division officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon with injury call for service in the 5200 block of North Sharon Amity Road.  Upon arrival, officers located a male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.  The Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also arrived on scene.  MEDIC transported the victim to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. 

 

Division detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search also responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  

 

Hickory Grove Division detectives identified, Terry Lowery (DOB: 05/12/1992), as a suspect in this case and obtained warrants for his arrest.  On Tuesday, October 24, 2023, CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) located and arrested Mr. Lowery.  He was charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury. 

 

On Thursday, December 28, 2023, detectives with the CMPD’s Homicide Unit were notified that the victim in this case, Donyelle Hill (DOB: 10/18/2003), succumbed to his injuries. 

 

As a result, homicide detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Murder against Mr. Lowery.

 

During the evening hours of Thursday, December 28, 2023, Hickory Grove Division’s Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) located and arrested Mr. Lowery.  Mr. Lowery was transported to the Law Enforcement Center in Uptown (601 E. Trade St.) to speak with detectives.  At the conclusion of the interview, Mr. Lowery was transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with Murder.

 

The victim’s next of kin has been notified of the arrest.
