Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Freedom Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, March 20, 2026) –  As a result of the continued investigation, detectives identified a suspect in connection to this case and obtained warrants for his arrest.

On Friday, March 20, CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) along with the Northeast Service Area Crime Reduction Unit (NESA CRU), located and arrested Eugene Turner, 47.

Turner was transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) to be interviewed by detectives. Upon conclusion of the interview, Turner was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office. 

Turner has been charged with:

  • First Degree Murder
  • Possession of a Firearm by Felon

The victim’s family has been notified of the arrest.

The victim’s next of kin has been notified of his death.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, March 17, 2026) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 700 block of Belmeade Drive in the Freedom Division.

On Tuesday, March 17, at approximately 10:16 a.m., officers responded to an Assist MEDIC call for service in the 700 block of Belmeade Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered a deceased victim in a utility right-of-way.

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence.
