Homicide Investigation in the Freedom Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, August 11, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 600 block of Belmeade Drive in the Freedom Division.

 

On Saturday, August 5, at approximately 1:09 a.m., Freedom Division officers responded to the 600 block of Belmeade Drive in reference to a citizen locating a deceased individual.  Upon arrival, officers located a deceased female in a nearby wooded area.

 

Freedom Division officers conducted an investigation and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives from the Charlotte Fire Department and the Medical Examiner’s Office also assisted.

 

After consulting with the Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner’s Office, the manner of death was determined to be a homicide. 

 

The victim has been identified as Diane Hester Lewis (DOB: 02/27/1960).  The victim’s next of kin has been notified of her death.

 

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD’s Public Affairs Office.
