Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Freedom Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, February 23, 2024) – As a result of the continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit identified and obtained arrest warrants for three suspects in connection to the murder of Mr. Natajah Johnson.

 

During the morning hours of Friday, February 23, 2024, the CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) located and arrested Khalil Lateef Bass, 21, Kenya Romain Venable, Jr., 22, and Akilah Theresa Parham, 23.  All three suspects were transported to the Law Enforcement Center in Uptown (601 E. Trade St.) where they were interviewed by detectives.  At the conclusion of the interviews, they were transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.  Mr. Bass and Mr. Venable were charged with Murder and Discharging a Weapon into Occupied Property.  Ms. Parham was charged with Accessory After the Fact to 1st Degree Murder and Filing a False Police Report.

 

The victim’s next of kin has been notified of the arrests.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, February 15, 2024) The victim in this case has been identified as Natajah Demetrius Johnson (DOB: 05/03/2002).  The victim’s next of kin has been notified of his death.

Homicide Investigation in the Freedom Division

 

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, February 14, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 2500 block of Little Rock Road in the Freedom Division.

 

On Wednesday, February 14, 2024, shortly after 2:30 p.m., Freedom Division officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service in the 2500 block of Little Rock Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim with apparent gunshot wounds. The victim was transported by MEDIC to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was later pronounced deceased.

 

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Investigations responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, MEDIC and the Charlotte Fire Department also assisted.
