Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Eastway Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, December 18, 2023) – As a result of the continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit identified and obtained arrest warrants for a suspect in connection to this case.
On Monday, December 18, 2023, the CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) located and arrested, Montrez McCoy (DOB: 12/21/1994). Mr. McCoy was transported to the Law Enforcement Center in Uptown (601 E. Trade St.) to be interviewed by detectives. At the conclusion of the interview, Mr. McCoy was transferred into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with the following:
- Murder (1st Degree)
- Attempted Murder (2 counts)
- Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury (2 counts)
- Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
The victim’s next of kin has been notified of the arrest.

Homicide Investigation in the Eastway Division
Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, November 12, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation near the 800 block of Seigle Avenue in the Eastway Division.
On Sunday, November 12, 2023, shortly after 2:00 a.m., Eastway Division officers responded to an ADW with Injury call for service in the 800 block of Seigle Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located multiple victims with apparent gunshot wounds. Three victims were transported by MEDIC to a local hospital where one male victim was pronounced deceased. The other two victims had non-life threatening injuries.
Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Homicide Prosecution Team, Medic and the Charlotte Fire Department also assisted.
