Homicide Investigation in the Central Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, Sept. 13, 2026) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 300 block of East Trade St. in the Central Division.

On Sunday, Sept. 13, shortly after 12 p.m., officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Injury call for service in the 300 block of East Trade St. Upon arrival, officers discovered a victim who had sustained gunshot wounds nearby. The victim was transported by MEDIC to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries where they succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced deceased.

A person of interest has been taken into custody and a gun was recovered. This appears to be an isolated incident and there is no active threat to the public.

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation. Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command and Charlotte Fire Department also assisted.
 
The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Office.
