Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Central Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, Sept. 7, 2026) – As a result of continued investigation, detectives identified Tyrell Deshawn Valentine, 36, as a suspect in connection to this case and obtained warrants for his arrest.

On Monday, Sept. 7, the South Carolina Law Enforcement agency (SLED) and Union County Sheriff’s office, in coordination with CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team, (VCAT) located and arrested Valentine and arrested him without incident.

CMPD detectives traveled to Union County to interview Valentine.

Valentine will be extradited back to Mecklenburg county in the coming weeks and transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Valentine is charged with Murder.

The victim’s next of kin has been notified of this arrest.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Office. Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, September 6, 2026) – The victim in this case has been identified as Manuel De Jesus Martinez , 33. The victim’s family has been notified of his death.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, September 6, 2026) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation at the 700 block of West Trade Street in the Central Division.

On Sunday, September 6, shortly before 4 a.m., officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon call for service at the 700 block of W Trade Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim with apparent gunshot wound. Medic pronounced the victim deceased on the scene.

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command and Victim Services also responded to assist.
