Homicide Investigation in the Central Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, Aug. 2, 2026) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation at the intersection of E. 5th Street and N. McDowell Street in the Central Division.

On Sunday, Aug. 2, shortly after 1 a.m., officers responded to a Robbery from Person call for service at the intersection of E. 5th Street and N. McDowell Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered a crash involving two vehicles. Four victims were transported to local hospitals, one with life-threatening injuries, three with non-life-threatening injuries. The victim with life-threatening injuries had sustained an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. No additional persons of interest are being sought at this time.

Homicide Unit and Major Crash Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, Charlotte Fire and MEDIC responded to assist.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD’s Public Affairs Division.
