High School Teacher Charged in Sexual Assault Unit Investigation

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, April 4, 2025) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) have arrested and charged a high school teacher at Harding University High School in a Sexual Assault Unit (SAU) investigation.

On Friday, April 4, a school resource officer at Harding University High School reported allegations of inappropriate messages sent to a student. Representatives from the CMPD Sexual Assault Unit (SAU) were notified.

SAU detectives responded to the school to conduct an investigation. At the conclusion of the investigation, a school teacher, Adrian Lewis was identified and arrested.

Lewis was taken to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) and later transported to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

He has been charged with the following:

  • Indecent Liberties with a Student (1 count)

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Division.
