Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, April 11, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Major Crash Investigation Unit are requesting the public's assistance in locating a vehicle involved in a hit and run crash investigation in the Metro Division.

On Monday, April 10, 2023 at approximately 11:27 p.m., officers responded to the 3400 block of Statesville Avenue in reference to a hit and run. Upon arrival, officers located an injured and unresponsive male victim in the roadway. Medic transported the victim to Atrium Health Main with life threatening injuries.

Detectives with the CMPD's Major Crash Investigation Unit and Crime Scene Search (CSS) responded to the scene to conduct an investigation. The preliminary investigation indicates that the pedestrian, Shayne Smart Waida (DOB: 02/15/1998), was crossing Statesville Avenue when he was struck by a gold or tan Ford F-150 extended cab pickup truck. The pedestrian was severely injured and was left in the roadway. The F-150 fled the scene. Prior to the crash, traffic cameras in the area captured the vehicle turning onto Statesville Avenue from Cindy Lane. Following the crash, the F-150 was seen turning onto LaSalle Street and was last seen heading towards I-77.

Please see actual photos of the suspect vehicle below.  The truck will have damage to the front end, grille and missing the Ford emblem.
