Fatal Vehicle Crash in the Westover Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, March 31, 2026) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal vehicle crash in the Westover Division.  

On Saturday, March 14, at 1:51 a.m., officers responded to a vehicle crash with personal injury call for service in the 3900 block of S. Tryon Street. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive pedestrian, William Angelo Primos, 28, in the street with life-threatening injuries. Officers also located a Ford Explorer and its driver nearby. MEDIC arrived on scene and transported Mr. Primos to the hospital. The driver of the Ford Explorer was not injured.

Officers with the DWI Task Force and Crime Scene Search (CSS) responded to the scene to begin their investigation.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Mr. Primos was standing in the road at night when he was struck by the Ford Explorer.

On Friday, March 27, Mr. Primos succumbed to his injuries sustained in the crash and was pronounced deceased.

Speed and impairment do not appear to be a factor for the driver of the Ford Explorer.

It is unknown if impairment was a factor for Mr. Primos. Toxicology results are pending.

The victim’s next of kin have been notified of his death.
