Fatal Pedestrian Crash Investigation in the University City Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, March 18, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a pedestrian death in the University City Division.

 

On Sunday, March 17, 2024, at approximately 1:39 p.m., University City Division officers responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by an Amtrak Train in the 9000 block of Old Concord Road.  Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive male near the railroad tracks.  The Charlotte Fire Department and Medic also responded to the scene.  Emergency personnel pronounced the victim, Mohamed Ahmed, 30, deceased on scene.

 

Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit, DWI Task Force, Motor Unit and members of Crime Scene Search responded to the scene to conduct their investigation.  The preliminary investigation indicates that the adult male was walking southbound on the tracks when he was struck by a train. 

 

Mr. Ahmed’s next of kin has been notified of his death.
