Fatal Pedestrian Crash Investigation in the Eastway Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, November 30, 2023) Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian in the Eastway Division.

 

On Thursday, November 30, 2023, at approximately 12:03 a.m., Eastway Division officers responded to a motor vehicle crash with injury involving a pedestrian in the 2800 block of The Plaza.  Upon arrival, officers located a seriously injured pedestrian and a 2021 Hyundai Kona in the roadway.  The Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also responded to the scene.  MEDIC transported the pedestrian, Lisa Pettis (DOB: 08/01/1965), to Atrium Health Main where she was pronounced deceased.

 

Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit responded to the scene, along with Crime Scene Search to conduct their investigation.  The preliminary investigation indicates Ms. Pettis was attempting to cross the 2800 block of The Plaza when she was struck by the Hyundai, driven by, Joanna Green (DOB: 08/06/1983).  Ms. Pettis was not in a crosswalk.

 

Ms. Green was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was not impaired.

 

Ms. Pettis’ next of kin has been notified of her death.
