Fatal Motorcycle Crash Investigation in the South Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, September 21, 2023) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcycle in the South Division.

 

On Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at approximately 11:32 p.m., officers responded to the 2300 block of Sharon Road West in reference to a motorcycle crash call for service. Upon arrival, officers located a damaged 2007 Kawasaki off the road and an unresponsive male lying in the roadway. The Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also responded to the scene.  MEDIC pronounced the operator of the motorcycle deceased on scene.

 

Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit, DWI Task Force and Crime Scene Search responded to the scene to conduct their investigation.  The preliminary investigation revealed that the Kawasaki was traveling west on Sharon Road West when he lost control and went off of the right side of the roadway. The operator of the motorcycle, James John Madeline (DOB: 11/18/1994), was ejected from the motorcycle.  

 

It is unclear, at this time, if excessive speed or impairment are factors in this case.  Toxicology results are pending.

 

Mr. Madeline’s next of kin has been notified of his death.
