Fatal Hit and Run Investigation in the North Tryon Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2025) – As a result of the continued investigation, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Detectives identified Vincent Edward Henry Jr., 40, as a suspect in this case. Major Crash Detectives obtained warrants for Henry's arrest for Involuntary Manslaughter and Felony Hit and Run.
On Monday, August 4, Henry turned himself in to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and was arrested on the outstanding warrants.
Mr. Chambers' next of kin has been notified of this case update.
The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Division. Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, July 6, 2025) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal hit and run collision involving two vehicles and a pedestrian that occurred in the North Tryon Division.
On Saturday, July 5, 2025, at 12:50 a.m. North Tryon Division officers responded to an Accident with Personal Injury call for service near the 4300 block of North Tryon Street. When officers arrived, they observed an unresponsive pedestrian, Ace Nathaniel Chambers, 74, laying in the PVA of 4337 N. Tryon Street, and a 2007 Chrysler 300 with heavy damage occupied by a driver, Willie Sturdivant, 35 and two juvenile passengers.
The vehicle that caused the collision fled the scene prior to officers arriving on scene. Mr. Chambers was pronounced deceased on scene by MEDIC.
Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit and members of the DWI Task Force responded to the scene to begin their investigation. Initial investigation indicates a collision involving two vehicles occurred near the 4300 block of North Tryon Street that resulted in Mr. Chambers being struck by one of the vehicles while walking on a nearby sidewalk.
It is unknown if speed or impairment are factors for this collision for the vehicle that caused the collision.
Speed does not appear to be a factor for Mr. Sturdivant, however, Mr. Sturdivant was screened for impairment and determined to be impaired and was subsequently charged with Driving While Impaired.
Additional charges will be determined pending the ongoing investigation.
Mr. Chamber’s next of kin has been notified of his death.
