Fatal Hit and Run Collision in the North Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, May 29, 2026) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal hit and run collision in the North Division.

On Friday, July 18, 2025, at approximately 9:01 p.m., officers responded to a vehicle crash call for service involving a pedestrian in the 2300 block of West Sugar Creek Road.

Upon arrival, officers located a pedestrian, Frank Leon Dent, 64 lying on the roadway with life-threatening injuries. MEDIC arrived and transported Mr. Dent to the hospital.

On Thursday, May 28, 2026, Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit were notified that Mr. Dent succumbed to his injuries sustained in the collision.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Mr. Dent was crossing West Sugar Creek Road when he was struck by an unknown vehicle before the vehicle fled the scene.

Mr. Dent’s next of kin has been notified of his death.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Division.
