Fatal Crash in North Tryon Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Saturday, April 5, 2025)– Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the North Tryon Division.
On Friday, April 4, 2025, at 8:27 p.m., North Tryon officers responded to a motor vehicle crash with injuries involving a pedestrian in the 6200 block of Barrington Dr. The Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also responded to the scene. Upon arrival, officers located a pedestrian in the roadway with serious injuries. A Ford Escape with damage to the front-end was located near the injured pedestrian. MEDIC transported the pedestrian to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. At the hospital the pedestrian, identified as Valerio Chun Ramirez, 58, was pronounced deceased.
Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit responded to conduct the investigation. Members of Crime Scene Search responded to the scene and to the hospital to collect physical evidence.
The preliminary investigation indicates the Ford was traveling north on Barrington Dr when Mr. Ramirez was struck as he was crossing the road. Mr. Ramirez was not in a crosswalk.
The driver of the Ford, Jose Garcia, 51, was not injured.
Speed or impairment do not appear to be contributing factors for Mr. Garcia. Mr. Garcia was charged with having No Operators License (misdemeanor).
Toxicology results are pending for Mr. Ramirez.
Mr. Ramirez’s family have been notified of his death.
