Fatal Crash Investigation in the Westover Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, March 11, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in the Westover Division.

 

On Friday, March 8, 2024, at approximately 6:52 a.m., Westover Division officers responded to a motor vehicle crash with injury near the 5400 block of Old Pineville Road.  Upon arrival, officers located a 2016 Volkswagen Jetta with heavy damage and a 2015 Western Star semi-truck in the intersection.  The Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also responded to the scene.  MEDIC pronounced two occupants in the Volkswagen, Kaia Hodge, 18, and Jada Cousins, 17, deceased on scene.  The driver of the truck, Marc Troy Bain, 63, was transported to Atrium Health South Park with minor injuries.

 

Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit and the Motor Unit responded to the scene and hospital to conduct their investigation. Crime Scene Search also responded to the scene to conduct their investigation.  The preliminary investigation indicates Ms. Hodge was traveling south on Old Pineville Road when she collided with the semi-truck as it attempted to make a left turn onto Tyvola Road.

 

Ms. Hodge and Ms. Cousins’ next of kin have been notified of their deaths.

 

The investigation into this crash is active and ongoing.
