Fatal Crash Investigation in the Westover Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, July 31, 2026) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal vehicle collision that occurred in the 1200 block of Remount Road in the Westover Division.

On Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at approximately 4:14 a.m., Officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the Charlotte Fire Department and Medic responded to the 1200 block of Remount Road in reference to a vehicle crash involving a 2014 Kia Rio that ran off the roadway and struck a utility pole.

When officers arrived on scene, they located a male juvenile victim and Evelin Suseli Mejia Alvarez, 19, occupant inside the vehicle unresponsive. The male was removed from the vehicle and transported to the hospital with life threatening injuries. The female was pronounced deceased on scene by Medic. The driver of the vehicle, juvenile 2, fled the scene of the collision without rendering aid or calling 911.

Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit, DWI Task Force and Crime Scene Search (CSS) responded to the scene to begin their investigation.

The white 2014 Kia Rio was determined to be stolen.

Speed and reckless driving appear to be contributing factors for this collision.

On Wednesday, July 29, 2026, a secure custody order was issued for Juvenile 2 for 2nd Degree Murder, Felony Hit and Run, Reckless Driving, and No Operators License.

On Friday, July 31, 2026, the secure custody order was served on Juvenile 2 when he was taken into custody.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Division.
