Fatal Crash Investigation in the Providence Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, May 14, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in the Providence Division.
On Sunday, May 12, 2024, at approximately 2:41 p.m., Providence Division officers responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the 4200 block of Providence Road. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive male pedestrian pinned underneath a 2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 in a gas station parking lot in the 4200 block of Providence. The Charlotte Fire Department and Medic also responded to the scene. Medic pronounced the pedestrian, Amanollah Rashidi, 58, deceased on scene.
Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit, DWI Task Force and Motor Unit responded to the scene to conduct their investigation. Members of Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene. The preliminary investigation indicates Mr. Rashidi was kneeled down in front of the Chevrolet truck out of view of the driver, Mr. Finn Thomas Devine. Mr. Devine began to drive forward in his vehicle when he struck Mr. Rashidi. Mr. Rashidi was pinned underneath vehicle.
Mr. Rashidi’s next of kin has been notified of his death.
The investigation into this crash is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD’s Public Affairs Office.
