Fatal Crash Investigation in the Providence Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, May 12, 2026) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal vehicle crash in the Providence Division.
On Sunday, May 10, at approximately 2:15 a.m., Providence Division officers responded to a Vehicle Crash with Injuries call for service in the 1400 block of Queens Road West. The Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, officers located a BMW M3 that had run off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. All occupants had to be extricated by the Charlotte Fire Department and were transported to local hospitals.
Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit were notified that a passenger, Keegan McKenney, 22, had been pronounced deceased.
The preliminary investigation indicates the BWM was traveling north on Queens Road West, ran off the roadway and collided with a tree. All occupants were restrained at the time of the collision.
Further investigation will be needed to determine if impairment or speed is a factor in this case.
Mr. McKenney’s next of kin has been notified of his death.
