Fatal Crash Investigation in the North Tryon Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, May 1, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in the North Tryon Division.
On Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at approximately 2:26 a.m., North Tryon Division officers responded to a motor vehicle crash with injury in the 6100 Old Concord Road. Upon arrival, officers located a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer with extensive damage and on fire. The Charlotte Fire Department and Medic also responded to the scene. After, firefighters extinguished the fire, two occupants were located inside of the vehicle. Medic pronounced both occupants deceased on scene.
Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit to conduct their investigation and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene. The preliminary investigation indicates the Chevrolet was traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on Old Concord Road when the driver lost control. The vehicle then veered off the right side of the road, struck a tree and caught on fire.
Excessive speed is believed to be a factor in this crash.
It is unknown if impairment was a factor in this crash. Toxicology results are pending.
The identities of the driver and passenger are pending until next of kin have been notified of the deaths.
