Fatal Crash Investigation in the North Tryon Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, May 6, 2026) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal vehicle crash in the North Tryon Division.

On Saturday, May 2, at approximately 4:19 a.m., officers, Charlotte Fire and MEDIC responded to the 200 block of Eastway Drive in reference to a single vehicle collision with injuries.

Upon arrival, officers located a damaged white Chevrolet and its driver, Louis Anthony Chighisola, 39, who was ejected from his vehicle. Mr. Chighisola was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

MEDIC transported Mr. Chighisola to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. On Sunday, May 3, Mr. Chighisola was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Impairment is a suspected factor pending a toxicology report.

The victim’s next of kin has been notified of his death.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Division.
