Fatal Crash Investigation in the North Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, Aug. 24, 2026) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Major Crash Investigation Unit are conducting a fatal motor vehicle crash investigation in the North Division.

On Monday, Aug. 17, at approximately 9:27 p.m., officers, Charlotte Fire and MEDIC responded to the intersection of Statesville Rd. and W.T. Harris Blvd. in reference to a two-vehicle collision with injuries.

Upon arrival, officers located a white pickup truck and a sliver Nissan Rouge with extensive damage. Officers located two occupants inside the Nissan with life-threatening injuries. MEDIC transported both occupants to the hospital.

The driver of the truck, Jeffrey Almond, 36, stayed on scene. Mr. Almond was screened for impairment and found to be impaired. Mr. Almond was arrested for DWI and Felony Serious Injury.

On Friday, Aug. 21, the passenger of the Nissan, Briana Watkins, 35, was pronounced deceased due to injuries sustained in the collision.

Detectives then obtained an additional arrest warrant for Felony Death by Vehicle on Mr. Almond.

The victim’s next of kin has been notified.
