Fatal Crash Investigation in the North Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, July 3, 2026) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in the North Division. 

On Thursday, July 2, at approximately 9:19 p.m., North Division officers responded to an accident with personal injuries call for service near the 5400 block of Statesville Road.

Upon arriving, officers located an unresponsive pedestrian, Keith Diontaquawn Blanks, 34, and a white Chevrolet Traverse with a single occupant, Meinyunah Saah Foiyoe, 26. MEDIC responded to the scene and pronounced Mr. Blanks deceased. Mr. Foiyoe was not injured and refused MEDIC.

Detectives with the CMPD’s Major Crash Investigation Unit, the DWI Task Force and Crime Scene Search responded to the scene and began their investigation. Initial investigation indicated Mr. Blanks was attempting to cross the 5400 block of Statesville Road outside of a designated crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle.

Mr. Foiyoe was screened for impairment and determined not to be impaired. Neither speed nor impairment are factors for Mr. Foiyoe.

This is an ongoing, active investigation. As further information develops it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.
