Fatal Crash Investigation in the North Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, Feb. 26, 2026) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in the North Division. 

On Saturday, Feb. 21, at approximately 5:56 p.m., officers responded to vehicle crash with personal injury call for service near the 4000 block of W. Sugar Creek Road. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive motorcyclist, Reginald Jerome Stowe, 56, on the northeast side of W. Sugar Creek Rd., with life-threatening injuries. Officers also located a Jeep Grand Cherokee with two occupants that were uninjured.

MEDIC arrived on scene and transported Mr. Stowe to Atrium Health Main with life-threatening injuries.

Detectives from the Major Crash Investigation Unit, Crime Scene Search (CSS), and officers with the DWI Task Force responded to the scene and began their investigation.

On Thursday, Feb. 26, Mr. Stowe succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

The preliminary investigation indicates Mr. Stowe was driving his 2022 Suzuki motorcycle westbound on W. Sugar Creek Road at a high rate of speed when he collided with a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The driver of the Jeep was screened for impairment and determined to not be impaired.

Speed does appear to be a factor for Mr. Stowe. It is unknown if impairment was a factor for Mr. Stowe. Toxicology reports are pending.

The victim’s next of kin has been notified of his death.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Division.
