On Saturday, March 28, 2026, at approximately 6 p.m., North Division officers responded to an accident with personal injury call for service in the 4600 block of Monmouth Drive. When officers arrived on scene, they located a damaged bicycle and a seriously injured juvenile bicyclist in the roadway, Nyomi Summers, 8.
They also located a 2006 Chrysler 300 sedan and its uninjured driver, Khaliyal Elijah Burney, 23, and a passenger. MEDIC responded to the scene and transported Summers to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit, officers with the DWI Task Force, Motor Unit, and members of Crime Scene Search responded to conduct an investigation.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the Chrysler was traveling south on Monmouth Drive when the bicycle entered the roadway from the yard of 4612 Monmouth. The front left of the Chrysler struck the front of the bicycle, ejecting Summers into the roadway.
