Fatal Crash Investigation in the Metro Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, March 10, 2026) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the 3600 block of Beatties Ford Road in the Metro Division.
On Thursday, December 18, 2025, at approximately 9:50 p.m., officers responded to a motor vehicle crash with injuries involving a pedestrian in the 3600 block of Beatties Ford Road. The Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, officers located a pedestrian in the roadway with serious injuries and a Chevrolet Trax with damage to the front of the vehicle. The driver of the Chevrolet, Jerry Sutton, 60, was screened by a DWI Task Force Officer and showed signs of impairment. Sutton was placed under arrest for driving while impaired. The pedestrian was transported by MEDIC to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Sutton was charged with Driving While Impaired the night that this crash occurred. The pedestrian, Jethro Aaron, 75, was released from the hospital and transferred to a rehabilitation center.
On Monday, March 9, 2026, the Major Crash Investigation was notified that Aaron succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash and was pronounced deceased on March 7, 2026.
The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Division.
