Fatal Crash Investigation in the Metro Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, February 14, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in the Metro Division. 

 

On Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at approximately 6:44 p.m., Metro Division officers responded to a motor vehicle crash with injuries involving a pedestrian in the 1000 block of Beatties Ford Road.  Members of the Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also responded to the scene.  Upon arrival, officers located a pedestrian in the roadway with serious injuries and a Volkswagen Passat with damage to the hood and windshield near the injured pedestrian. The driver of the Volkswagen, Amber Nicole Jones (DOB: 11/11/1992), was not injured and remained on scene. MEDIC transported the pedestrian, Lalla Habiba Alaoui Jamal (DOB: 08/02/1952), to Novant Presbyterian Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.  

 

Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit and the DWI Task Force responded to the scene and hospital to conduct their investigation. Crime Scene Search also responded to the scene to conduct their investigation.  The preliminary investigation indicates Ms. Jamal was attempting to cross Beatties Ford Road when she was struck by the Volkswagen Passat.  Ms. Jamal was not in a crosswalk.

 

Impairment and speed are not believed to be factors in this crash for Ms. Jones.

 

On Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at approximately 11:08 p.m., Ms. Jamal (DOB: 08/02/1952) was pronounced deceased at Novant Presbyterian Medical Center due to injuries she sustained from this crash.   Ms. Jamal’s family was with her at the time she was pronounced deceased.
