Fatal Crash Investigation in the Independence Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, July 7, 2026) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Major Crash Unit are investigating a fatal vehicle crash in the Independence Division.

On Monday, July 6, at approximately 8:01 a.m., officers, Charlotte Fire and MEDIC responded to the 7300 block of E. Independence Blvd. in reference to a pedestrian being struck by a tractor trailer.

Upon arrival, officers located a white tractor trailer and its driver. Behind the trailer, officers located the pedestrian, Idrisu Issaku, 53, with life-threatening injuries.

MEDIC transported Mr. Issaku to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of the tractor trailer was backing up the truck to a loading dock when Mr. Issaku got caught between the truck and loading dock wall.

The victim’s next of kin has been notified of his death.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Division.
