Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, May 22, 2026) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in the Hickory Grove Division.

On Monday, May 18, at approximately 9:33 p.m., officers responded to an accident with personal injuries call for service near the 6100 block of Hickory Grove Road. Upon arriving, officers located a silver Kia Forte in the middle of the road with a single occupant, Roosevelt Davis III, 55, and a white Kia Soul with a single occupant, Andy Guardado, 23. MEDIC responded to the scene and transported both Davis and Guardado to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Initial investigation indicated Davis was attempting to make a U-turn when he collided with another vehicle that was traveling in the opposite direction.

Guardado was screened for impairment and determined not to be impaired.

On Thursday, May 21, Davis was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

It is unknown whether speed or impairment are factors for Davis. Toxicology results are pending.

Davis’s next of kin has been notified of his death.

This is an ongoing, active investigation. As further information develops, it will be released by CMPD’s Public Affairs Division.
