Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, Oct. 25, 2026) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred in the Freedom Division.

On Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, at approximately 6:34 p.m., CMPD officers responded to a call for service reference a motor vehicle crash with injuries in the 10600 block of Moores Chapel Road. Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, officers located a Harley Davidson motorcycle off the left side of the road and a Honda Pilot with front left quarter damage at the crash location. The driver of the Honda, Jose Salas Tzompaxtle, 36, was on scene and advised of no injuries. The driver, Rodney Ewing Quinn, 66, and passenger, Dana Asbill Osborne, 63, of the motorcycle were both lying in the roadway unresponsive. MEDIC pronounced both the driver and passenger of the motorcycle deceased on scene.
Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit, officers with the DWI Task Force and Crime Scene Search were called to the scene to investigate.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that Tzompaxtle was operating his Honda Pilot and turning left from the driveway at 10600 Moores Chapel Road onto Moores Chapel Road. Tzompaxtle failed to yield the right of way to the Harley Davidson being driven by Quinn and occupied by Osborne as the back seat passenger. Quinn attempted to stop his Harley Davidson but struck the left front corner of the Honda with the right front side of the Harley Davidson. As the vehicles disconnected, the Harley Davidson went down on its side, causing Quinn and Osborne to be ejected from the motorcycle.
Tzompaxtle showed signs of impairment and was arrested. He was transported to the Mecklenburg County Detention Center and charged with two counts of Felony Death by Motor Vehicle and issued a citation for No Operators License.
Quinn and Osborne were wearing Department of Transportation (DOT) approved helmets.
The next of kin for both victims have been notified of their deaths.
