Fatal Crash Investigation in the Eastway Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, August 16, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in the Eastway Division.

On Thursday, August 15, 2024, shortly before 7:45 a.m., Eastway Division officers responded to a motor vehicle crash with injuries call for service in the 3900 block of North Sharon Amity Road. Upon arrival, officers located a 2021 Toyota RAV4, a 2019 Honda Passport and a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder heavily damaged in the roadway.   The Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also responded to the scene.  MEDIC pronounced the driver of the Toyota, Mr. Daryl Antonie Wright, 50, deceased on scene.  

Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit responded to the scene to conduct their investigation and members of Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  The preliminary investigation indicates Mr. Wright was traveling at a high rate of speed on North Sharon Amity Road when he struck the Honda Passport.  The Toyota overturned, struck the Nissan Pathfinder and a utility pole on the right side of the roadway.  The vehicle came to rest on its roof.  The drivers of the Honda and Nissan suffered minor injuries and were treated on scene by MEDIC.

Speed is believed to be a contributing factor in this crash for Mr. Wright.  Toxicology results are pending.

Mr. Wright’s next of kin has been notified of his death.
