Fatal Crash Investigation in the Central Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, June 5, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in the Central Division.

 

On Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at approximately 2:19 a.m., Central Division officers responded to a motor vehicle crash call for service in the 700 block of West John Belk Freeway.  Upon arrival, officers located an overturned 2019 Jeep Wrangler and a 2005 Hyundai XG 350L sedan with damage to the driver’s side and rear of the vehicle.  Officers located an unresponsive male in the roadway next to the Jeep and immediately began to administer CPR.  The Charlotte Fire Department and Medic also responded to the scene.  Medic transported the unresponsive male, Frederick Lachoun Brown, Jr., 26, to Atrium Health Main where he was pronounced deceased.

 

Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit, Homicide Unit, members of the DWI Task Force, Motor Unit and Crime Scene Search responded to the scene to conduct their investigation.  The preliminary investigation indicates Mr. Brown was driving the Jeep Wrangler and was traveling northwest on West John Belk Freeway when he struck the Hyundai.  Mr. Brown lost control of the Jeep and struck a concrete median and overturned. Mr. Brown was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. The driver of the Hyundai, Goodness Chizuru Odoemena, 20, sustained minor injuries.

 

Mr. Brown’s next of kin has been notified of his death.
