Officer-Involved Shooting Investigation in the Central Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, July 8, 2025) – As a result of this continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) have identified Demetruis Taquan Bristow, 20, as the suspect in this case.
On Sunday, July 6, 2025, Bristow was arrested and transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) for an interview with detectives from CMPD’s Homicide Unit. Mr. Bristow was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with the following:
- Attempted 1st Degree Murder
- Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill (X2)
- Resist, Delay and Obstruct
- Malicious Conduct by a Prisoner (X2)
- Assault Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury on a Law Enforcement Officer
- Assault with a Firearm on a Law Enforcement Officer
- Assault on a Government Official
- Assault on a Female
The CMPD officer involved in this incident remains hospitalized and is currently in stable condition as he continues to recover.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, July 6, 2025) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting an Officer-Involved Shooting investigation in the 600 block of North Church Street in the Central Division.
On Sunday, July 6, shortly before 6:15 a.m., an off-duty CMPD officer responded to a disturbance in the 600 block of North Church Street. Upon arrival, a physical altercation occurred between the officer and the suspect. During the altercation, a firearm was discharged and the officer was shot in the leg. The suspect then fled the scene but was apprehended shortly after.
The officer was quickly treated on scene by responding officers before he was transported to an area hospital to undergo surgery. He is currently in serious but stable condition.
Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office, Victim Services, MEDIC and CFD also responded to assist.
