Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Hickory Grove Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, May 21, 2024) – As a result of the continued investigation, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit identified Juan David Rodriguez Garcia, 19, as the suspect in connection with the murder of Shawn Powell.
The CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) is requesting the public’s assistance in locating Juan David Rodriguez Garcia, who currently has outstanding warrants for Murder and Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon. Anyone with information about Mr. Garcia’s whereabouts is asked to call CMPD’s VCAT immediately at 704-336-VCAT (8228). Mr. Garcia should be considered armed and dangerous.

The victim’s next of kin have been notified.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, May 5, 2024) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 9600 block of Albemarle Road in the Hickory Grove Division.
On Sunday, May 5, shortly before 6:00 p.m., officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service in the 9600 block of Albemarle Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered a victim with a gunshot wound. Medic pronounced the victim deceased on scene.
Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives from CMPD’s Operations Command, CFD and Medic also assisted.
