CMS Coach Charged Following Shooting into Occupied Property

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2025) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Westover Division are investigating a Shooting into Occupied Property case involving Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) coach, Dia’Mond Johnson, 27.
On Wednesday, Oct. 22, York County Sheriff’s Office in collaboration with CMPD located and arrested Johnson in South Carolina. Johnson was transferred to the custody of the York County Sheriff’s Office and is awaiting extradition. Johnson was charged with two counts of Shooting into Occupied Property.
Johnson was a CMS non-faculty member coach. For questions about Johnson’s current employment status, please reach out to CMS.
This incident occurred off school property and did not involve any student, teacher or facility.
The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Division.
