CMPD Proactively Responds to University City Teen Takeover

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, July 13, 2026) – After receiving advance open-source information about a planned teen takeover at the University City Boardwalk on Saturday, July 11, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) implemented a coordinated operational plan that resulted in 12 juvenile arrests, 10 adults being cited for Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor and, most importantly, no injuries to officers or community members and no property damage.

CMPD proactively and strategically deployed resources from Patrol, the Public Order Bike Unit, the Northeast Service Area Crime Reduction Unit and the Aviation Unit to support crowd management, enforce curfew laws and enhance weapon detection efforts. Thanks to this coordinated deployment, officers were able to safely manage and disperse the crowd of approximately 200-300 juveniles.

Charges for the 12 juveniles arrested included:

Curfew Violation – 9
Resist, Delay, Obstruct – 3
Assault on a Government Official – 2
Trespass – 2
Possession of a Firearm by a Minor – 1
Carrying a Concealed Weapon – 1

Ten parents/guardians were cited for Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor. The adults who were cited have been identified as:
