CMPD Officer Charged with DWI

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, Sept. 22, 2025) – The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Internal Affairs Division is conducting an internal investigation regarding the charges brought against CMPD North Division Officer Matt Wilson outside of the CMPD jurisdiction.

On Sunday, Sept. 21, 2025, North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP) officers responded to a vehicle crash in Montgomery County, North Carolina. Officer Wilson was operating the vehicle at the time of the crash. Upon investigation, NCSHP found probable cause to charge Officer Wilson with DWI.

Officer Wilson is currently on unpaid administrative leave pending the outcome of the internal investigation.

Officer Wilson was off duty when the incident occurred.

Officer Wilson was hired on May 26, 2020, and is currently assigned to the North Division.
