Charlotte, N.C. - (Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2024) –The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) Internal Affairs Division is conducting an internal investigation regarding the arrest of CMPD Officer Dylan Lineberger outside of the CMPD jurisdiction.
A warrant was issued in S.C. for 1st Degree Harassment. Lineberger was arrested in Lincolnton, N.C., after a traffic stop conducted by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. Lineberger is awaiting extradition to South Carolina. The Rock Hill Police Department is the lead investigative agency, and any further questions should be directed to its Public Information Office.
Lineberger was off duty at the time of the arrest.
Lineberger has been placed on administrative leave without pay pending the outcome of the CMPD Internal Affairs Investigation. Lineberger was hired on Jan. 25, 2016, and his most recent assignment was in CMPD’s Central Division.
Statement from Chief Jennings:
“I am tremendously disappointed to learn of the arrest of Officer Lineberger. Any time an officer is arrested, it shakes the public’s confidence in law enforcement and erodes trust in policing. We work daily to improve relationships with the community and will continue to do so. We have high expectations for our men and women in uniform, but when our officers are not at work, we expect them to abide by the same laws they are sworn to uphold.”
