Case Update: Second Arrest Made in Assault with a Deadly Weapon in Independence Division
 
Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, April 28, 2026) – As a result of the ongoing investigation, detectives identified Cristian Omar Paredes-Alvarez, 21, as a suspect in connection to the April 25, 2026, Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Injury call for service in the 5300 block of E. Independence Boulevard.  
 
On Tuesday, April 28, Paredes-Alvarez was located and arrested by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) without incident.
 
Paredes-Alvarez was transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) to be interviewed by detectives. At the conclusion of this interview, Paredes-Alvarez was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
 
Paredes-Alvarez is charged with: 
  • Possession of a Stolen Firearm
  • Felony Conspiracy
  • Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill or Inflict Serious Injury

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, April 27, 2026) – The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) is providing an update on several significant arrests that took place over the weekend.

“While headlines may capture the occurrence of crimes in our community, the relentless investigative work and coordination that follow should not be overshadowed,” said Chief Estella D. Patterson. “CMPD officers and professional staff work diligently day in and day out to ensure that criminal actions are met with enforcement and accountability. Our focus remains steadfast: identifying those who disrupt the peace and ensuring they are held responsible for their actions.”

Weekend Enforcement Highlights:

  • On Saturday, April 25, shortly before 2 a.m., officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Injury call for service in the 5300 block of E. Independence Boulevard. Officers located one victim with a gunshot wound in the parking lot. Upon investigation, officers learned the altercation between the victim and two suspects had originated inside Crazy Horse. Shots were fired in the parking lot and both suspects fled the scene. With assistance from the Real Time Crime Center (RTCC), officers located and arrested one suspect. Luis Ramiro Vazquez-Martinez, 21, was charged with Simple Assault, Felony Possession of Cocaine, Felony Conspiracy, Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill or Inflict Serious Injury. Vazquez-Martinez was also served with outstanding warrants for Second Degree Kidnapping, Assault on a Female, Misdemeanor Crime of Domestic Violence, Injury to Personal Property and Misdemeanor Larceny (Report: 20260425-0159-00).

     

  • On Saturday, April 25, shortly before 9 p.m., officers responded to a Fight-Crowd call for service at Romare Bearden Park. Officers successfully de-escalated the situation, breaking up a large physical altercation. Six juveniles were taken into custody, and they face a total of nine charges, including Affray, Disorderly Conduct and Resist, Delay, Obstruct. Officers also cited each parent or guardian involved for Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor (Report: 20260425-2058-02).

     

  • On Saturday, April 25, just after 9 p.m., officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon call for service at the intersection of S. Tryon Street and Erwin Road. The caller indicated that the subject was pointing a firearm at cars passing by. Officers arrived on scene and located a suspect matching the description with a firearm in his possession. The suspect, Christopher Ryan Durkin, 35, was taken into custody and charged with Assault by Pointing a Gun (Report: 20260425-1721-02).

     

  • On Saturday, April 25, just after 11 p.m., officers working in an off-duty capacity at the Truliant Amphitheater responded to the sound of gunfire in a nearby parking lot. Their quick action led to the detainment of a suspect vehicle and the arrest of a juvenile for Possession of a Firearm (Report: 20260425-2319-03).

     

  • On Sunday, April 26, shortly before 1 a.m., officers responded to a Shots Fired call for service in the 6200 block of Hackberry Creek Trail. Upon arrival, officers discovered one victim suffering from a non-life-threatening injury. Following a preliminary investigation and witness statements, officers were led to a nearby apartment. After making contact with the occupants, officers successfully recovered a firearm and took Tenaia Monet Boyles, 26, into custody. Boyles has been charged with Discharging a Weapon into Occupied Property Involving Serious Injury and Injury to Personal Property (Report: 20260426-0053-00). Prior to officers making contact with the suspect, a CMPD K9 Unit arrived on the scene to sweep for ballistic evidence. The K9 alerted to a nearby vehicle, indicating the presence of gunpowder residue. A male occupant within the apartment identified himself as the owner of the vehicle and provided officers with consent to search. During the subsequent search, officers located several jars of marijuana and a significant amount of currency. Deonte Lindsey, 30, was arrested and charged with Possession with Intent to Sell or Deliver Marijuana (Report: 20260426-0345-02).

 

While these arrests are noteworthy, they reflect only a small portion of the department’s efforts this weekend. They also show the consistent, everyday work CMPD officers do to respond to the community and hold offenders accountable, helping keep Charlotte safe.

“As we move into the summer months, CMPD tends to see an uptick in certain types of crime. I want our community to know that we are fully prepared,” Chief Patterson noted. “We have strategic plans in place, increased staffing where needed and a continued commitment to proactive policing. Charlotte can be confident that CMPD is ready to meet these challenges head‑on and keep our neighborhoods safe.”

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department encourages the public to report any activity that appears unusual or potentially unsafe by calling 9-1-1. Early reporting allows officers to respond quickly and helps prevent situations from escalating. Anyone who observes suspicious behavior, including sudden large gatherings or unsafe vehicle activity, is urged to contact law enforcement.
