CMPD Highlights Continued Success of Queen City Safe Operation

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2026) – The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) has released the results of a recent Queen City Safe operation conducted within the Central Division in Uptown Charlotte and South End.

Queen City Safe is a recurring, multi-agency initiative focused on identified hotspot locations across CMPD's jurisdiction. Its primary goal is to reduce violent crime and improve the overall perception of safety and quality-of-life concerns across the city by increasing officer visibility and responding directly to community issues.

On Friday, Aug. 21, CMPD’s Crime Reduction Units (CRU) and Entertainment District Unit (EDU) worked in coordination with Alcohol Law Enforcement (ALE), Mecklenburg County Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC), the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office (MSCO), the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP) and the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ), for the eighth operation of 2026.

During the latest Queen City Safe deployment, CMPD achieved a significant disruption of criminal activity within key corridors of the Central Division. Through focused, high‑visibility enforcement, officers removed illegally possessed firearms, curbed open‑air narcotics activity, and intervened with individuals driving violent crime. These efforts reflect CMPD’s continued commitment to enhancing safety and restoring order in areas most impacted by criminal behavior.

The Aug. 21 operation resulted in:

  • Traffic stops: 162
  • Citations: 133
  • Arrests: 22
  • Firearms seized: 14
  • Suspected narcotics seized: approximately 578 grams
  • U.S. currency seized: $2,956

Since January, CMPD’s monthly Queen City Safe operations have delivered strong, measurable improvements in public safety throughout Charlotte. The initiative continues to build momentum, and to date, it has produced the following results:

  • Traffic stops: 1,294
  • Citations: 527
  • Arrests: 165
  • Firearms seized: 83
  • Suspected narcotics seized: approximately 5,577 grams
  • U.S. currency seized: $31,481

Building on this strong collaboration, CMPD will continue conducting these coordinated operations on a recurring basis across divisions throughout its jurisdiction, ensuring that the partnership-driven approach remains a consistent force multiplier for community safety.
